My dog is my world. I met Lucero when she was only three months old in a small, rural Nicaraguan town. She was skinnier than a dog should be and desperate for the smallest amount of love. I scooped her up in my arms and never let go. After spending two years serving in the Peace Corps, I brought Lucero home with me back to Boston. Our favorite part of each day is wandering in the beautiful New England woods. For me, to meditate and find peace. For her, to chase squirrels and smell everything under her cute little nose. There were times during my isolating and challenging Peace Corps service that I truly believed Lucero was the only one who could speak my language or could understand what I was all about. Te amo la Lucerito, mi amor, mi amor, mi amor…
